We'll take a look at the players who have made it to the big leagues and the teams they are playing for. We'll also provide a brief overview of their career highlights and accomplishments. The 2021 Major League Baseball season is officially underway, and the Jacksonville area is well-represented on Opening Day rosters. Here are the players from the Jacksonville area who are making their mark on the diamond this season:
• Dansby Swanson, SS, Atlanta Braves: Swanson, a Marietta, Georgia native, was the first overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft. He has been a mainstay in the Braves lineup since his debut in 2016, and is coming off a 2020 season in which he hit .274 with 10 home runs and 37 RBIs.
• Austin Meadows, OF, Tampa Bay Rays: Meadows, a native of Conyers, Georgia, was acquired by the Rays in 2018 and has been a key contributor ever since. He had a breakout season in 2020, hitting .205 with 16 home runs and 49 RBIs.

• Nick Markakis, OF, Atlanta Braves: Markakis, a native of Woodstock, Georgia, is entering his 15th season in the majors. He has been a mainstay in the Braves lineup since 2015, and is coming off a 2020 season in which he hit .258 with four home runs and 24 RBIs.
• Mike Foltynewicz, RHP, Baltimore Orioles: Foltynewicz, a native of Minooka, Illinois, was acquired by the Orioles in 2020. He is coming off a 2020 season in which he posted a 4.54 ERA with 59 strikeouts in 57.2 innings pitched.
• Josh Tomlin, RHP, Atlanta Braves: Tomlin, a native of Whitehouse, Texas, is entering his 11th season in the majors. He has been a reliable presence in the Braves bullpen since 2019, and is coming off a 2020 season in which he posted a 3.86 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 33.2 innings pitched.

Archer was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in 2006 and was traded to the Rays in 2011. He has since become one of the top pitchers in the American League, winning 81 games and making three All-Star teams.
