The cause of honoring veterans was motivated by the recent recognition by NHL’s President John Collins due to Toronto Maple Leafs HONORING Brace McCallum on November 11 th 2018 which was commemoration for McCallum being the first player in NHL history serving in a combat zone in Afghanistan.
Brace is younger brother of Toronto Maple Leaf’s captain Miggs McCallum who also served in Afghanistan from 2009-2010 where he participated in five brigades and rose to position of platoon sergeant before he too return back home to Canada.
